The Breakdown
So what does Kiril have to do? To beat the record set for running the Bulgarian leg of the Kom-Emine route, he must run 600km in under 5 days. It’s a distance that would take an experienced hiker 25 days to cover. Can he do it?
The first part of the documentary covers all of the preparation that goes into one man’s attempt to break a record. There’s plenty of equipment, there’s crew to meet him at each of the checkpoints throughout the route, and plenty of runners to pace him from section to section. On top of that, there’s also the spectators who cheer him on throughout the race, and the cameramen who film him. With a huge amount of support, the whole ordeal looks a little bit easier.
So when he starts, even Kiril finds the route easier than expected with the tremendous amount of support. Day one goes incredibly smoothly, and he never looks tired. But day 2 is when the positivity ends. He picks up a small injury in the worsening weather and doubts start to creep into his head. Can he keep going to beat the record?
What to Watch Next (SPOILERS)
The obvious follow up to Reach Your Limits is to watch 109 hours. It follows Kiril’s second attempt to break the record. It’s a nice film to watch after the horrendous luck in Reach Your Limits, but the title is a bit of a giveaway.
